Vitex has been widely used for timber decking and hardwood flooring in Australia and New Zealand. It is very durable hardwood with a life expectancy of up to 40 years above the ground and easy to work with. Vitex is beautiful olive-grey wood with pale yellowish to creamy-grey appearance.

 

Properties

Botanical Name : Vitex Cofassus
Origin : South East Asia & South West Pacific Region
Density : 700-800 kg/m3
Colour : Pale yellowish-brown to greyish, olive-brown
Durability : Durable Class 2
Texture : Fine and even; slightly lustrous. A distinctive leathery feel

 

Working Properties:

  • Easy to cut across the grain.
  • Good bending qualities.
  • Holds nails well without pre-drilling but pre-drilling advisable to prevent splitting onboard ends and to prevent cracking.
  • Utmost Care is very essential due to natural greasiness of wood.

Mechanical Properties:

Vitex is a dense hard wood with above average crushing and bending strength and medium stiffness and resistance to shock loads.
